  4. Guiderius    The noise is round about us.
  5.  
  6. Belarius                                            Let us from it.
  7.  
  8. Arviragus    What pleasure, sir, find we in life, to lock it
  9.     From action and adventure?
  10.  
  11. Guiderius                                    Nay, what hope
  12.     Have we in hiding us? This way the Romans
  13.     Must or for Britons slay us or receive us
  14.     For barbarous and unnatural revolts
  15.     During their use, and slay us after.
  16.  
  17. Belarius                                            Sons,
  18.     We'll higher to the mountains, there secure us.
  19.     To the king's party there's no going;
  20.     Newness of Cloten's death, we being not known, not mustered
  21.     Among the bands, may drive us to a render
  22.     Where we have lived, and so extort from's that
  23.     Which we have done, whose answer would be death
  24.     Drawn on with torture.

  26. Guiderius                                    This is, sir, a doubt
  27.     In such a time nothing becoming you
  28.     Nor satisfying us.

  30. Arviragus                                It is not likely
  31.     That when they hear the Roman horses neigh,
  32.     Behold their quartered fires, have both their eyes
  33.     And ears so cloyed importantly as now,
  34.     That they will waste their time upon our note,
  35.     To know from whence we are.

  37. Belarius                                        O, I am known
  38.     Of many in the army. Many years,
  39.     Though Cloten then but young, you see not wore him
  40.     From my remembrance. And, besides, the king
  41.     Hath not deserved my service nor your loves,
  42.     Who find in my exile the want of breeding,
  43.     The certainty of this hard life; aye hopeless
  44.     To have the courtesy your cradle promised,
  45.     But to be still hot summer's tanlings, and
  46.     The shrinking slaves of winter.

  48. Guiderius                                            Than be so,
  49.     Better to cease to be. Pray, sir, to th' army.
  50.     I and my brother are not known; yourself
  51.     So out of thought, and thereto so o'ergrown,
  52.     Cannot be questioned.

  54. Arviragus                                By this sun that shines
  55.     I'll thither. What thing is't that I never
  56.     Did see man die, scarce ever looked on blood
  57.     But that of coward hares, hot goats, and venison!
  58.     Never bestrid a horse save one that had
  59.     A rider like myself, who ne'er wore rowel
  60.     Nor iron on his heel! I am ashamed
  61.     To look upon the holy sun, to have
  62.     The benefit of his blest beams, remaining
  63.     So long a poor unknown.

  65. Guiderius                                        By heavens, I'll go,
  66.     If you will bless me, sir, and give me leave,
  67.     I'll take the better care; but if you will not,
  68.     The hazard therefore due fall on me by
  69.     The hands of the Romans!

  71. Arviragus                                    So say I, Amen.
  72.  
  73. Belarius    No reason I, since of your lives you set
  74.     So slight a valuation, should reserve
  75.     My cracked one to more care. Have with you, boys!
  76.     If in your country wars you chance to die,
  77.     That is my bed too, lads, and there I'll lie.
  78.     Lead, lead.
  79.     [Aside.] The time seems long; their blood thinks scorn
  80.     Till it fly out and show them princes born.
